Residents surrounding the Oakland Rd area started receiving notices today about the upcoming public hearing regarding 0 Oakland Rd (Assessors Map 33, Lots 19 and 21 or simply across from Reading Memorial High School). After the first heavily attended meeting on July 12th at the Performing Arts Center (video replay here), this will be the second meeting to discuss the conceptual design for an affordable housing development at that site. Mark you calendars for September 12th in the Select Board Meeting Room at Reading Town Hall at 7:30PM. Typical CDPC meetings have run well into the night and this one is expected to be no different with Oakland Rd and 128 Tire on the agenda.
The town has owned the land on Oakland Rd for over 90 years. Numerous developments and ideas have been proposed since then but never materialized. Will there be a 35 unit senior living facility or 16 units of family housing there? Only time will tell.
The latest plans will be made available to the public at Town Hall and on the Town website on September 8th. A copy of the complete notice is provided below as well as two original videos of the area in question.
