The 18 Woburn Street development project is finally slated to start construction today. You might ask yourself, where is 18 Woburn Street again? You’ve probably driven past it or down it, 100’s of times since it burnt down a decade ago and never paid much attention to it. As you turn down the driveway into the CVS parking lot next to Tin Bucket, 18 Woburn is that patch of grass that abuts the 3 parking spots going down that hill. It’s replacement was originally going to be called “Cornerstone Square” years ago but never materialized. It was then sold in 2021 and the Community Planning & Development Commission (CPDC) approved site plans for that location in December of that year.
Scheduled for that site is a multi level mixed use development with the 2,400sq ft ground floor being utilized as commercial space and the upper 2 floors being residential. Underneath/behind CVS will be a lower-level parking garage with 6 spots for the 6 new apartments.
During construction, 5 parking spaces behind the building will be lost via a safety fence as well as 3 out front on Woburn Street and the 3 along the driveway. However, those 3 driveway spots will not return when construction is completed as they belonged to 18 Woburn Street. A portion of the new building will encroach about halfway on the spots while still allowing for emergency vehicles to make the turn from Woburn Street.
Construction hours are limited to M-F 7am-8pm, Sat. 7am-5pm, and none on Sunday’s or holidays unless special permission granted. Contractors have been asked to not park in the CVS lot but the only recourse at this time is ticketing if and when any vehicle goes over the 4hr time limit. The cost of said ticket? $20. Construction is anticipated to last until October 2023.
Is there a lottery for the CVS apartments?
