The Town of Reading and its contractor Insituform will begin to clean and inspect large diameter drainpipes Downtown. This is part of the critical Town-wide water, sewer, and drain line distribution system improvement program. Inspections and pre-construction activity is scheduled to begin on Monday, July 17th.
This last piece of our downtown infrastructure improvements is one of the least invasive as drain lines will be lined in-place and require little to no excavation of the roadway. In most locations, traffic shall be able to move freely through the work zone with minimal delays and detours. The lining work is scheduled for completion the week of 8/7/2023, weather dependent. The contractor has proposed that the entire project duration requires less than one month on site.
Work zones for this project will encompass the following locations:
- Memorial Park skating rinks
- Lincoln Street from Woburn to Washington Street
- High Street from Vine Street to Washington Street
- Green Street (manhole installation near #26 will require a closed roadway)
- Easement from Washington Street to Gould Street
Under the current plan, construction will not affect the accessibility to businesses. In rare cases when construction may impact driveways the contractor will make every effort to provide temporary access to these properties and alert the homeowner or business.
For continued up to date information please check our website and social media pages. A map with the locations of work will be updated and kept on the Public Works website.
