The Killam School Building Committee met this past Monday, July 17th at 6pm. First on the agenda was a reorganization of the committee and Pat Tompkins, the current chair, stepped down as chair expressing bandwidth issues. Fidel Maltez, the Town Manager, took control of the meeting and opened nominations for chair. Carla Nazzaro, Karen Gately-Herrick and Greg Stepler were nominated. Greg declined the nomination. Carla Nazzaro was elected chair with a 6-3 vote. Nominations were opened for the vice chair position. Karen Gately Herrick, Greg Stepler and Ed Ross were nominated. Karen Gately Herrick was elected vice chair with a 7-2 vote.
Mrs. Nazzaro and Mrs. Gately-Herrick thanked the committee. The Town Manager gave an update on the MSBA process and shared that we were waiting for formal approval by the MSBA to approve and allow Reading to enter into a contract with Colliers as the Owner’s Project Manager of the project. A formal letter was expected to arrive within the next couple of days.
Mike Carroll, the Project Director, discussed the Designer Selection Process, the initial project schedule and discussed that they would introduce us to the proposed Project Manager shortly. This is something that the MSBA is eager to learn as well.
The committee discussed future agenda items and approved 6-21-23 meeting minutes. The committee decided to meet on the third Monday of each month at 7pm, which is different from the typical 6pm start, and would fill in with additional meetings as needed. Their next meeting would be August 21st at 7pm.
