The following is an important message from the Reading Public Schools.
RPS Community,
We hope you are all enjoying a successful start to the 2023-2024 school year. Due to tomorrow’s extreme heat/humidity projections and the current temperature of many of our classrooms, tomorrow (Thursday, September 7th) will be an early release day for all RPS students (except for R.I.S.E. students at RMHS). Our region remains in a heat advisory and many predict tomorrow to bring the highest heat and humidity levels of the year. Without consistent air conditioning across our buildings and the recent string of hot weather, many of our classrooms and buildings are experiencing uncomfortable temperatures for learning. We appreciate your understanding and flexibility as we prioritize the safety of our students and staff.
Elementary schools will dismiss at 12:45pm, middle schools will dismiss at 12:30pm, and RMHS will dismiss at 1:03pm. R.I.S.E. students at Killam and Wood End will dismiss at 12:45pm and R.I.S.E. students at RMHS will dismiss at their normal time (classrooms are air conditioned). Extended Day will begin immediately after school and will remain open on a normal schedule. Athletic teams can expect to hear from our Athletic Director and team coaches regarding modifications to both schedules and practice routines due to the heat. During the school day tomorrow, we will continue to provide access to water stations for students and staff in each of our buildings.
We are closely monitoring the weather and building conditions for Friday and will reach out tomorrow afternoon if we need to make any adjustments to Friday’s schedule. As always, please reach out to our office or your building principal if you have any additional questions.
Best,
RPS Central Office
