via the Croft Film Club – On Sunday, October 1st, we’re bringing our film crew to RMHS to film some track and field reenactments for the upcoming documentary CROFT with a special focus on the infamous DQ incident that took place against Woburn in 1998.
This was truly the “DQ heard round the world” as it (temporarily) put an end to Reading’s 239 dual meet undefeated streak and earned coverage by press outlets around the globe. Ultimately, it was overturned on appeal and the streak continued.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with the term “reenactment,” this is a documentary storytelling technique where key moments from the film are recreated with actors for dramatic effect. In this case, our actors are real RMHS student athletes! And a few other RMHS-connected people you may recognize. (Any guesses on who we have playing Hal Croft?)
Filming for the DQ scene is scheduled to start between 1 and 2 pm at Hal Croft Track (62 Oakland Rd, Reading, MA) and we are going to want a crowd onsite to cheer on the runners as they head down the home stretch. If you happen to be in the area and you are free, please feel free to join us and be part of the action!
Two quick notes:
- We will be filling the stands first and there will be a lot of seats available at the start. However, we can’t guarantee a seat if a large group shows up. Perhaps consider bringing a folding chair in your car just in case.
- Please bring some bottled water and a snack. It is supposed to be a nice day, but depending on the number of angles and “takes” we shoot, the scene can take quite a while (2-3 hours). We’ll want your energy high and your voices clear!
Upon arrival, there is no need to check in. Please just take your seat and we’ll provide some instructions on the ground for how the filming will work.
