The Select Board will be meeting tonight at 7:30pm in the Select Board meeting room at Town Hall. The only item on the agenda for tonight’s meeting is an update from Community Paradigm Associates on Town Manager Search and announcement of the finalists.
The new Town Manager Screening Committee has met several times over the past couple weeks but all of their work has been held in Executive Session for the confidentiality of the applicants. Tonight will be the first time the general public will be aware of who the finalists are but not any of the 18 applicants. In 2021, the Select Board had 3 finalists; Patrice Garvin the Town Manager of Belmont, Fidel Maltez DPW Commissioner of Chelsea and Jennifer Phillips the former City Manager from Bothell, WA. Fidel Maltez was unanimously voted 5-0 to be the Town of Reading’s next town Manager but ultimately left on December 31, 2023 to become the City Manager of Chelsea.
If tonight’s process is anything like last time, there will be 3-4 finalists but no votes will be taken. The board is slated to interview the candidates at a rare Saturday meeting on January 27th from 10am to 3pm. Given the time-frame allotted, that would indicate a maximum of 4 candidates if each were given the same amount of time to interview plus a lunch break.
