On Tuesday night, the Select Board held their second attempt at the annual reorganization process but this time it was unanimous. The meeting started off with acting Chair Mark Dockser speaking about this weekends bomb threat at the Reading Public Library and asked that the community band together calling out this bias motivated crime, an act of hatred. Mark went on to speak about the current state of the town:
The town is divided, perhaps mirroring the country and perhaps even the world right now but we can set a better example on how to behave and how to lead. We can stop the bullying and promote debate on issues using our established policies and procedures. To that end, I would like to nominate Carlo Bacci as Chair and Karen Herrick as Vice-Chair for the board. I believe this offers a solid way forward, demonstrating our ability to work together and find compromise.
Mark Dockser
Karen Herrick then seconded Mark’s motion. After board members gave their input, there were no other nominations and Carlo Bacci was elected Chair and Karen Herrick, Vice-Chair by a 4-0 vote. Also unanimous, was the vote for Secretary as Mark Dockser nominated Chris Haley, seconded by Karen Herrick.
The Select Board is scheduled to next meet on April 9th, their last meeting before Town Meeting (which was rescheduled to start on April 25th to not conflict with the first two days of Passover).
