Over the weekend of July 19th – 21st, Meadow Brook Golf Club hosted its 13th Weekend for a Cure in support of the ESSCO-MGH Breast Cancer Research Fund, bringing in a record $71,808! Since the tournament’s inception in 2010, Meadow Brook has donated over $286,000 in support of innovative research at ESSCO.
The weekend consisted of tennis and pickleball tournaments, a swimming lap-a-thon, and a golf tournament. Forty-nine sponsors, including members, friends, and businesses associated with the club and the surrounding Reading, MA community, saw their messages and logos displayed around the course, and an anonymous donor volunteered a $10,000 match for all funds raised through sponsorship. Members and guests participated in silent auctions and raffles throughout the week, and a spirited live auction capped off Saturday’s afternoon golf scramble.
The weekend was member-organized with the extraordinary support of Head Pro, Kevin Franey and his team and Club Manager Ron Rice and his team. The Weekend for a Cure is a special event each year for Meadow Brook and its continued success is due to the support of all involved. The tournament committee would like to thank all who participated, volunteered their time, and contributed their generous financial support!
Meadow Brook Golf Club has been a member of the Reading community since 1898. A family-oriented club, Meadow Brook offers a full slate of activities including golf, swim and tennis, all managed by a professional staff.
The ESSCO-MGH Breast Cancer Research Fund was established in 1994 with the goal of raising $5 million for an endowment that would support breast cancer research at MGH in perpetuity. The ESSCO-MGH Breast Cancer Research Fund is a zero-overhead organization. Every dollar raised goes directly to cancer research, instead of administrative or fundraising purposes.
