Like déjà vu from their home opener vs Danvers, the Reading Rockets varsity football team won the coin toss vs the Belmont Marauders and didn’t stop from there. On the very first play of the game, Belmont fumbled the football and Reading would recover. D’Von Burcy would then score his first of four rushing touchdowns on the very next play. Reading would miss the extra point and take a 6-0 lead. On Reading’s second possession, D’Von Burcy would rush for another touchdown and a false start on Reading would set them back for another missed extra point for a 12-0 lead.
Quarterback Jack Murphy would follow up the scoring with a 49 rushing touchdown of his own and Reading would this time make the extra point for a 19-0 lead. Ryan Pulpi would return a Belmont punt for a touchdown and Reading would take a commanding 26-0 lead into the second quarter. Reading would then block Belmont’s punt allowing Jack Murphy to once again rush in for another touchdown. D’Von Burcy would add another pair of rushing touchdowns, one coming after Reading recovered a fumble, for a 46-0 halftime lead.
Cyrus Cousins would score a rushing touchdown in the 3rd quarter followed by a rushing touchdown by Jonathan Le in the 4th to close out the game with a 60-0 victory for the Rockets. Reading would end the regular season with an 8-0 record overall with a 6-0 record in the Middlesex league. They would outscore their opponents 295-97 headed into the playoffs. At the time of this article, their first round playoff opponent is not yet assigned.
