Dear Editor,
We would like to make you aware of our strong opposition to the MBTA proposed second rail turn back track which would be less than 50 feet directly behind our residence.
We have lived on Hancock St. the majority of our lives and this proposed plan to allow idling with the emission of diesel fumes so close to our home and the homes of our neighbors is unacceptable. We are also deeply concerned about the noise this would create and potential of diesel fuel to spill or leak creating ground pollution, as well as contaminating the creek that runs adjacent to the tracks.
We are aware that a second rail already exists in a Commercial Zone in the Walker Brook area. Having an existing second track already should make this proposed plan in a residential area not necessary.
Parker Middle School, Tannerville apartments and many many families will be in direct proximity to this plan.
We truly hope that you can address our concerns and seek a better solution for the Reading community.
Thank you for your time,
Sal & Linda Russo
