Last night was Charles (Chuck) Robinson’s final School Committee meeting after 18 years. Prior to that, he spent 9 years on the Finance Committee. Chuck announced earlier this year that he would not be seeking reelection to the School Committee and that “it’s time to let some other people step up”.
Starting off would be Chair Tom Wise, proclaiming that tonight’s Focus on Excellence would be a Focus on Excellence in Service by Chuck Robinson and that a few familiar faces were here as well, that would be when his family, friends and former committee members he served with came out of the back room to surprise Chuck.
Chuck would go on to say:
You know most of us look to do something to give something back and you don’t always do everything right but you always give it 100% and try to do your best. The kids of this community are what it’s all about and whether it be on the fields or in the club classrooms or anywhere. I’m not going anywhere I really love this community and and love all the people that that I’ve served with so thank you.
Dr. Thomas Milaschewski, Superintendent of Schools, would then present a gift of a new rocking chair by the School Committee that Chuck would be taking home, engraved with his tenure on the board 2007-2025. He went on to thank Chuck:
“18 years of dedication, all the Thursday nights every other week, the sacrifice you make with your family and everything to serve the community is truly incredible. That doesn’t even show all the time behind the scenes that I know from my time here you put in supporting you know going through things visiting schools to go above and beyond. In addition to your dedication, I’d like to thank you for your impact for 18 years you have been a key member of this community in helping keep Reading Public Schools, not only one of the pride of the community but also a model for the School District in our area”.
Also coming to see Chuck’s last hurrah former committee member Elaine Webb, who joked that Chucks new chair was a rocker and that hers was not. And with that, there was cake!
