The MBTA Communities law requires the 177 municipalities in the Boston area to confirm that they have a zoning district of reasonable size where multifamily housing (3+ units) is zoned for by-right. Reading does NOT currently comply with the law and our zoning must be revised to meet the new requirements.
Reading’s Planning Department is hosting a series of knowledge sessions this fall, where we’ll discuss the law, the history of zoning in Reading, the results of our survey, and share feedback on our first round of ideas.
