The following is an excerpt from a GoFundMe started by Reading resident, Jeffrey Lonks, for his Eagle Scout project with Reading Troop 702. As of this posting, Jeff has raised $810 out of his $1,400 goal with construction beginning in October. A majority of the funds will be spent on (34) 8ft Trex boards and (24) 2x8x8’s.
Hi my name is Jeff. I am replacing a section of a bridge in the Reading town forest for my eagle scout project with Reading Troop 702. Reading Scouts have built nearly all the bridges in the town forest. I plan to replace the bridge using a new design approved by the Town’s Trail’s Committee to be sustainable and minimize impact on the environment. I am replacing an approximately 32ft section of bridge connecting east and west portions of the forest. This is the only way across the town forest. It receives dozens of two- and four-legged walkers and bikers every day. Other sections have been replaced, but this section, an ‘S’ turn, is tricky from a construction standpoint. Funds raised will be used to purchase the materials needed.
